C04 - Neil Wood and Gwen Màiri

SUN 9TH APRIL
NEIL WOOD
In this concert Neil (from Glasgow) will perform a selection of arrangements of traditional Scottish music from a range of places, time periods and sources as well as new traditionally inspired compositions on both gut and wire-strung harps. The programme will explore ornamentation and texture through the use of fingernail techniques on both harps.
GWEN MÀIRI
Gwen, a harpist brought up in a Welsh-speaking family in Scotland, presents music from her 2019 album, Mentro. Firmly rooted in the Welsh tradition, Gwen has taken tunes from the archives, words from across the generations and inspiration from her Welsh and Scottish heritage to weave an intricate web of the old and the new in her contemporary but traditionally influenced style.
“A delicately spun collection… bright, articulate harping and singing… her voice hangs over crystalline strings.” Jim Gilchrist, The Scotsman
