C01 - CHRIS STOUT & CATRIONA MCKAY / SUNITA STANESLOW
Chris and Catriona are old friends of the festival and are absolutely delighted to be able to join this year’s
celebrations! Awarded Best Duo at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for their album Bare Knuckle in 2018, Chris and Catriona have performed, explored and sculpted their musical identities together for almost thirty years. They’ve brought the traditional and contemporary into fruitful dialogue with folk, jazz and classical idioms, charting a rhythmic and harmonic terrain that is all their own. The result is a dynamic and intrepidly adventurous sound that transcends genre yet remains immovably tethered to place.
SUNITA STANESLOW
Overseas and Beyond Borders
Travel with Sunita as she shares her personal harp journey and favourite tunes showing how the harp has always helped her cross religious and ethnic divides. She fell in love with the passion of traditional Jewish and Arabic music in Jerusalem and felt compelled to create music inspired by the beauty of the night sky in her new home in Shetland. Her harp goes with her almost everywhere, even spending six months with her and her husband, cycling across Europe towing the harp! She will share stories and music from travelling and living far from her roots in the American Midwest.
