TUTOR: Karen Marshalsay

LEVEL: Mixed Ability

TEACHING METHOD: E+M Teaching by ear initially with written music given out during the session.

Featuring a mix of lullabies, waulking songs and other tunes from the Gaelic traditions of South Uist and Barra, this wire harp course will look at how to play them on wire strings, with fingering and damping considerations, and advice on adding ornamentation and bass notes to further enhance and support the tunes. Karen will teach and explain the techniques she uses in her playing of the tunes, including coupled hands, fingering gestures from Ap Huw and Bunting, and others such as ‘gurglies’, cuts and traditional grace notes.
