TEACHING METHOD E+M: Teaching will be initially by ear with written music

Discover the passion and power of both Jewish and Arabic music. We will learn several Jewish melodies based on verses from the Psalms, secular Jewish Sephardic melodies, Yiddish songs and explore the rhythm and modes of traditional Arabic music. Sunita will discuss ways of performing and arranging them that bring out their Jewish soul and exotic Arabic character. We will work from full arrangements, lead sheets and improvise around a Middle Eastern mode.
