W08 - Wisdom from the Early Gaelic Harp Tradition: Practical Arranging along Historical Lines for all Harps James Ruff
Following the latest research into historic evidence of harp bass and historic fingering for the early Gaelic Harp, we will explore arranging early Gaelic pieces for wire-strung harp and all kinds of harps. We will look at evidence of harp bass in the Bunting field notebooks and various early Scottish Lute Manuscripts, comparing and contrasting what we find with the arrangements we see in early publications, such as The Ancient Music of Scotland by Daniel Dow (1776). We can try out the different possibilities ourselves and discuss our own
perceptions and impressions as we go.
You are welcome to bring your harp.
