T18 - Karen Marshalsay

EDINBURGH’S TUNES

4 DAY COURSE Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues 09.00-10.30

TUTOR: Karen Marshalsay

LEVEL: Intermediate/Advanced

TEACHING METHOD: E+M - Teaching by ear initially with written music given out during the session.

Music publishing flourished in Edinburgh in the late 18th and 19th centuries, and this course will look at tunes from this period with a close Edinburgh connection, often reflected in the titles. There are some gems of tunes tucked away in these collections that sound good on the harp, although often originally published for fiddle, piano, harpsichord or flute. We will look at how to play them on harp, with subtly shifting voicings and ornamentation in traditional style. For all harps that can change key quickly (levers or pedals advised).
