T23 - Deborah Henson-Conant

BLUES FOR HARP
4 DAY COURSE Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues 09.00-10.30
TUTOR: Deborah Henson-Conant
LEVEL: Mixed Ability
TEACHING METHOD: E+M: Teaching will initially be by ear with written music given out during the session.
Learning the Blues teaches you more about patterns, improvisation and spontaneous ensemble playing than any other form of music. Blues can be upbeat, slow or simple, but the best part of Blues is that it’s a great type of music to play in mixed ability settings. You’ll learn how to quickly find a Blues scale in different keys, how to play crunches and how to bend notes. You will also learn to swing the rhythm, and to create melodic, accompaniment and bassline patterns and learn a simplified version of DHC's popular "New Blues" on which you can improvise, so the next time someone says “Wanna Jam?” you can say – “Let’s Play the Blues!”.
