C05 - Karen Marshalsay / Laura Penman
MUSIC SCHOOL
KAREN MARSHALSAY
Karen will present the
Three Scottish Harps: the warm-sounding lever harp, the resonant
wire-strung clarsach of the Gaels and the baroque era bray harp with its
distinctive sitar-like buzz give the harp huge significance in the
Scottish tradition. Karen Marshalsay is one of only a handful of harpers
who specialises on all three instruments. With a playing style that is
deeply connected to the piping tradition, she has won praise for both
the purity of her phrasing and her ability to add character to a melody
with decoration. Tunes and the stories behind them make Karen’s Three
Scottish Harps an entertaining, informative experience.

own compositions.
