New
players of the wire-strung clarsach are very welcome to join this course.
Using both historical and traditional pieces, we will reinforce basics and
explore damping techniques that allow the music to shine, without the
clutter of excessively ringing strings. All sizes of harps can be used,
and it’s helpful to have fingernails at least 2 mm long. As we interpret
the pieces, we will learn how to play cleanly, and how to release harmony
from melody. Additionally, we will explore playing crisp decorations found
in historical sources, and making interesting accompaniments.
